Can You Eat Too Much Protein?

Protein has achieved a valued status in the dietary world for everything from building muscle to preventing weight gain. But can too much of it be a good thing?

While some nutritionists have encouraged a high-protein diet, others have urged caution. They point out that while eating large amounts of protein won’t necessarily “hurt” you, it will cause an unbalance in your diet.

“Leaning heavy towards one micro can lead to deficiencies in other macros and other vital nutrients,” Jim White, RDN, owner of White Fitness Studios, recently explained to Men’s Health magazine. “For example, if you consume 60 percent protein, 20 percent fat and 20 percent carbs, you could be robbing yourself of B vitamins, fiber, and extra energy that you would normally get through a moderate carbohydrate diet.”

Of course, eating the right balance of foods is only part of the weight loss success equation. The other key is eating the right amount of foods, and portion control is a major component of successful weight loss. With the ReShape® weight loss procedure, the dual intragastric balloon acts as built-in portion control. Additionally, you’ll work with your ReShape weight loss coach who can help you find a balanced diet to support your weight loss. You’ll meet with your personal coach regularly to set goals, review your eating patterns, and build a customized eating plan to keep you on track to lose weight with ReShape.
